On our farm we keep a flock of New Zealand Romney’s descended from the Kent Romney which was developed by Farmers on Romney Marsh before being sent out to New Zealand. There through selective breeding they became a low-input and low maintenance breeding sheep which still produced high-quality lamb which can be Grass finished. Our pork we produce ourselves on our farm in the sunny Southdowns and our hog roast company can provide our succulent meat anywhere in the British isles. What, Where, Who
We run a flock of 500 New Zealand Romney's they are performance recorded with sheep weighed every 6 weeks with breeding replacements selected on growth rates in order to long term increase the performance of the flock.
They lamb outdoors in April, with lambs finished off grass by October. The majority of our lamb is sold to Tesco's through their Sustainable Farming Group which helps support farmers by offering them a fair price.
We make sure our herd of sows, boar and our huge number of fatteners are well cared for on our free range farm, because we believe a happy hog becomes a delectable dish!
We believe that our commercial crosses represents some of the best breeding stock in the country. We use genetics from around the world to provide you with the very best tasting pig!
James is not a farmer in the traditional sense, he inherited now land and has no farm house or buidlings. All the of our land is spread out across the South of the UK with fields rented from Storrington, West Sussex to Cirencester in Gloucestershire and we are very grateful to our landlords who keep the business on track.
Our sheep graze grass land and herbal leys with all the fields rented on short-term grazing licenses, none of our agreements are longer than 12 months. Our grass finished lamb goes straight to Tesco's or is available through our hog roast business. The pigs are kept on chalk on the southern flank of the Southdowns in West Sussex.
The farm is run by James Wright, a mid-twenties entrepreneur with a keen eye for quality. James has always had a passion for farming and loves nothing better than spending his time with his pigs, sheep and driving the tractor. He is obsessive about welfare and started this business with the idea that ‘he’d never sell an unhappy animal’. From conception to plate we can guarantee that our livestock have never gone under any undue stress!
